Interested in becoming an umpire in the South Jersey Umpire Association?
Every year we are looking for motivated individuals who love baseball and wish to be involved in the game. Umpiring is great way to provide a service to local organizations and stay connected to the game you love.
Annually we host a class for people wishing to become high school varsity level umpires. As a newly recruited cadet, you will receive instruction from one of our top officials. This consists of classroom and field instruction. After your educating ends, you will be examined and graded on your knowledge of the game. Once you have passed the course, you will become a member of SJUA as a cadet and will be assigned games!
Your instruction does not stop there though. Our mentor program will pair you with a seasoned umpire who will guide you through your first few years. You will continue to learn and our course instructor will assist you in preparing for varsity certification by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). Once you are certified through the state of New Jersey, you will be able to umpire varsity level games.
Is it a lot of work? Yes. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? UNDOUBTEDLY YES! All of our umpires are passionate about the game of baseball and the work they do. Ask any one of our officials and they will tell you it is one of the best decision they ever made!
Our cadet class takes place in the winter usually starting shortly after the new year. Please check back here often for announcements about upcoming cadet instruction or use the Get In Touch page to contact our officers to get more information.
